This month’s color crush capsule is desert chic.
Happy August bb’s!
Up until two weeks ago I was feeling rather uninspired and unsure in which direction to take the color crush capsule.
Here’s why:
(1) August is always the hottest month of the summer. With 90+ degree weather on the horizon, there was minimal motivation to abandon air conditioning, to drench a super cute outfit in not-so-cute perspiration.
(2) August is basically the long night – dark & full of credit card debt terrors. Budgeting isn’t my strong suit, so it’s no surprise that when it comes to the end of summer, I’m officially broke.
(3) August signals a transition between seasons, and it’s bittersweet. (Raise your hand if you feel me.) Although I love love love autumn, I like to savor every sweet drop of summer. Even before the color crush capsule, the hues I wore during this month were a means to holding on a little bit longer to late sunsets and early sunrises.
Planning
Initially, I proposed to Josie a capsule dedicated to summer neutrals. We were each scheduled for a two week vacay in a hot sunny climate – I in California and she in Arizona – where light colors are crucial to keeping the heat at bay. I didn’t love the idea, but it was all I had. Fortunately, Josie wasn’t sold either. She texted me a week or so later, and as per usual, came through with a much more cohesive theme: desert vibes.
She sent along some pics she liked – filled with whites, browns, olives – and though I loved them, something was missing. We needed a fluid way to transition into September’s waning light & changing leaves; we needed more color. I headed to everyone’s favorite visual search engine, Pinterest, for inspiration.
Alas! It didn’t take long to stumble upon my own desert chic board and in a few short minutes I had found the image above.
Desert Vibes
This color crush capsule couldn’t have come at a better time. The San Diego landscape is rife with cacti, succulents, and palms. The Spanish style architecture is full of desert sunset tones. The whole city issa a color crush vibe & this capsule is an ode to southwest chic, with a feminine twist. My wardrobe has taken on a entirely different persona and I am totally in love with it.
