Spring lovin’ had me a blast!
Crazy excited to be bringing this look to you, as it marks the first time in several months that I’ve actually had the opportunity to write! The school year has been extra-extra-read-all-about-it busy this year, leaving me with barely enough time to keep the IG up and running. But now it’s May, and that means only eight weeks left! Woohoo!
With that being said, let’s dive right in to confession time: I’m an impulse buyer (anyone else?) and as a result, often find myself several months later, wondering how my drawers came to be full of so many pieces that I don’t wear. The temptation to stay up to date is hard to resist, especially with so many adorable trends on the rise (off-the-shoulder, pom-poms, chambray, oh my!) but purchasing pieces that can help you re-shop your closet when your budget is tight, is a must.
The idea of re-purposing a dress as a skirt has always appealed to me, and as I’m too lousy of a sewer to actually DIY any I own, (and knowing me I would probably regret it within five seconds of the first cut) finding the easiest way to rework an old piece is always exciting. I was inspired to do this look by recent posts by Stylish Petite and Extra Petite, who both styled two classic Banana Republic pieces in the most adorable way. While I definitely love my stripes and mint, I wanted to style a look that was little more retro in feel, and allowed me to work some of the more memorable wardrobe pieces in a way that was different that how I had worn them before.
I love this printed top and typically mix it with other memorable prints for a bold statement. I absolutely adored, however, that this pairing with the dress allowed for a more demure, airy, spring-time feel. I definitely see myself donning this look again for a Mother’s Day brunch.
My mom purchased this gold lace trench for me several years ago from an Asia-based website. We ordered a large, but unfortunately the measurements given online were not TTS, and larger sizes were out of stock. This trench was far too cute of an opportunity to pass up, so I chose to keep it although buttoning can be a bit tricky. Needless to say I was stoked when it resurfaced on sedarlah.com a few weeks ago. They have sizes up to XXL and it comes in not one, not two, but three other colors! I love the lace, the bow, and the details on the buttons. This trench is the epitome of all things dainty and feminine and it comes highly recommended.
