An Ode to Summer

Days fuse, like streams into rivers.

Batteries fade; indefinitely, clock hands quiver.

A dusty calendar reads one month past,

and each afternoon feels longer than the last.

Though I know summer will meet its eventual demise,

The end of this season always takes me by surprise.

Hey loves!

Although I head back to work in less than a week, I’m still in disbelief that this month is almost over. August in Boston (and many places it seems) is characterized by increasingly warm, muggy, days that make it hard to believe the season is drawing to a close. Most mornings, I would be inclined to remain comfortably in my air conditioned bedroom if it weren’t for a few dog-days-of-summer approved favorites.

Little White Dress

I didn’t get the opportunity to shoot this look until right before I went on vacation, but I’ve worn this casual cotton shirt dress from Express numerous times this summer. If you’re a Sweaty Betty like myself, cotton dress are a must-have. The material is breathable and absorbs moisture, rather than leaving it to sit on your skin. A good white frock also conceals sweat stains, can be dressed up or down with accessories, and is always on trend. The month is winding down, but the weather isn’t and it’s never too late to add one of these to your closet. I always wear a nude slip under white dresses, even if they’re lined. Miniature Straw Tote

I’ve been crushing on just about every piece from this line of perfect beach totes all summer, but most of them were out of my price range. I could not have been more excited to stumble upon this mini tote, the perfect alternative to its more expensive, larger counterpart. It easily fits all of my necessities: phone, a few toiletries, and a small wallet. I love the nautical vibes of the navy stripes but there are a number of colors to choose from, including this punchy orange one.

Other Accessories

I’ve been seriously fiending for a pair of round sunnies and scooped this pair up for under $16 thanks to share from another Boston blogger. They’re currently on sale for only $10! I’m also feelin’ this similar pair and have added these pink beauties to my wishlist. I love these pom pom earrings! They encompass every shade in my August color crush and are such a fun addition to any outfit needing a little flair. My striped, lace up, espadrille wedges always get so many compliments even though I’ve had them for three years. I found a similar pair on sale for under $70 here and another (these are more of a splurge) here.
