Today, I’m styling a midi dress in the most iconic summer print: red gingham!
Hey loves!
My original intention was to post this look in mid-July, but between the end of my summer semester & family vacation, it was best to put the blog on hold. Now that I received my grades & I’m all rested up, I’m back and ready to share!
I purchased this midi dress from an online retailer called Mint Limit. At this point in my life, I don’t generally take risks on unfamiliar vendors. Every once in awhile, however, I see a great piece that is just such a good deal, I’m too curious not to. Shortly after I placed my order, one of my classmates asked me if I could write on post on how to style a midi. How serendipitous!
This dress is cute & lightweight. I like it’s length, the slight flair at my waist, and the button front detail. It’s slightly sheer but that’s nothing this nude bra & half slip can’t handle. My only complaint is some gaping near my underarms. It was so inexpensive, however, I have no problem paying a tailor to take in the sides.
I love the way Jessica from Bows & Sequins showed the versatility of an autumn midi, and I wanted to do the same for a summer one! Below are three ways to style this dress, and any other you may be thinking about purchasing or may already own!
1. Bow Back Heels
This look is simple & classic. Here, the accessories act both fun & strategically placed. For example, pointed toe pumps create the illusion of longer legs. Given that midi dresses tend to decrease the perceived length of legs, this tip may be especially helpful for ladies looking for an extra vertical boost.
2. Graphic Tee & Espadrille Wedges
I love any look where a dress serves double duty. Just throw on a graphic tee, knot the bottom, and you have an instant midi skirt! I’m also obsessed with this straw bag I found on Etsy. The seller was *extremely* kind & responsive, down to mailing me this white pom in a separate package – even though I failed to indicate my interest in the original order.
3. White Denim Jacket & Sneakers
This look is quite possibly my favorite. I love the ease, comfort, & simplicity of a pair of white tennis shoes. (Fun fact: I didn’t own any other color sneakers – other than running sneakers – throughout all six years of middle & high school.) I’ve been meaning to purchase a white denim jacket for a few months now and finally bit the bullet.
Tell me, which look is your favorite?!
