Hello lovelies!
Everywhere I look, someone is talking about Fall. Between the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and Back-to-School commercials, even I have succumbed a little in my latest posts on Instagram. Not surprisingly though, I’m still not entirely ready to let go of summer, and let’s be honest, neither is Mother Nature! As we move into September, the forecast for Boston looks very similar to that of August. Beautiful sunny days and daily high temperatures of 80° and above. (I mean, come on! Why am I expected to go back to school before Labor Day without a fight?) I do, however, love a good challenge and what’s more challenging than finding a comfortable, but stylish, way to navigate the transition between sizzling, summer afternoons and brisk, autumn evenings?
If you read my latest post, you already know that tropical prints will continue to thrive in cooler months. By mixing and matching quintessential fall hues with these prints (and more), I hope to get the most out of my favorite summer pieces well into the coming weeks and, like the weather, gradually transition both my outfits (and my brain) into everyone’s favorite season. This initiative opens the door for countless combinations: stripes and olive. gingham and cognac…lemon print and cranberry? Yes please. Talk about great news! It feels as if my love affair with fruit has only just begun.
The Outfit
This skirt could not fit any more perfectly, and thank goodness because it is only available in one size. At $17, however, I can’t complain! It comes fully lined (I wear nude undies anyway) and includes an adorable braided belt. It’s the perfect length for me; often skirts in this style hit me below the knees and make my long legs look oddly short. Can we also take a second to admire the way it catches the wind? I can’t get enough. Full disclosure: It only has three belt loops, and I will say that each time I wear it, I struggle to figure out which two are supposed to be worn in the front. The cinched waist is also a tad unconventional, entailing a piece of elastic folded in half hotdog style that, in some places, needs to be re-folded after wearing. But who doesn’t love a little stretch? I purchased this cranberry top last fall from Ann Taylor, and I love the way the contrast complements the vibrancy of the skirt. This color is one of my favorites for the season, and I feel like I could wear a multitude of similarly hued tops for an equally swoon worthy look. For warmer days, a sleeveless tie-neck top; an off-the-shoulder for a date night; a sweater when the temperatures start to soften. This pairing felt not much unlike a 90’s RomCom; simply serendipitous. I was so excited after this shoot, I pulled out all of my fall pieces from last season to brainstorm how I could make more looks like this.
Accessories
Although I wasn’t always in this camp, I’m a firm believer that big cat print can serve as a functional neutral. My mom purchased these Nine West kitten heeled slingbacks for me last summer, as a $10 add-on to another pair of pumps. I’ve been scouring the world-wide web for a similar pair to share with you all for the last year and stumbled this very similar Sole Society pair a few days ago. If you’ve been following me for a while, you’re familiar with this cheetah print fold-over that gives the Chloe clutch a run for its money! Yet again, I have been looking for another inexpensive dupe to share with you, and I’ve finally found one! Grab it here, but be fast! It has sold out several times before. (Trivia: What’s the difference between cheetah and leopard? Confused? Me too. I just read this incredibly helpful article!)
