Valentine's Day 2017: Red Peacoat & Bow Print Skirt -

Happy February!

Is it me, or does anyone else feel like January just flew by? I mean, I just finally started writing the correct year on (most of) my passes at school. Thus far, 2017 has been off to a mixed start. I’ll begin by addressing the elephant in the room and say that the current political climate has been beyond exhausting. It’s no secret that I am very opinionated and often use my personal Facebook as a sounding board. The last few weeks, however, have been a whirlwind of signatures, policies, and mandates. Given that most of my days are spent with adorable, but sometimes troubled teens, January has had some rough days.

For those in a similar position, please practice self-care. We each have a limited amount of emotional energy to give and without consistently accessing the infinite source of love God provides for us, it’s easy to caught up in all the hullabaloo and tucker yourself out. For me, church is one way I self-care and the blog is the other. Church is like hitting reset on the week and I love to share new content on Into the Wardrobe, even when I am most fatigued. Whatever it is for you, do it: a daily morning devotion, a run, a manicure, a new lipstick. Just do it.

On the bright side, January was witness to some grade A adulting. Last month, I scheduled an eye exam and I purchased myself a new pair of BURBERRY glasses (see above). I legitimately love them and they secretly-not-so-secretly may have dictated 80% of my daily wardrobe choices for the last two weeks. If you follow me via social media, you may have notice this recent obsession with red, black and neutrals. Coincidentally, this color combo is the perfect union of my favorite parts of February: Valentine’s Day & Black History Month! I love holidays and generally any excuse to have a themed party. In the past I hosted a Ladies’ Brunch at my house one weekend during the month, although this year I’m opting to go out and stuff my face with two of my besties. (Stay tuned for my Galentine’s Day brunch look because I tried it on earlier this week and I didn’t want to take it off.) I also am one of a few people who get to say that I work with several of my best friends, and I couldn’t be more excited for what we have in store for BHM.

The Look

Express has been my jam lately, and this sweater was honestly one of my best purchases of the season. The sweater is made from thick, quality fabric and the mock neck is just enough to keep me warm without being overly chunky. I also love the lacing up the front. It’s subtle, but provides just enough detail to prevent it from looking basic. The vertical ribbing is figure flattering and the long, cuffed sleeves are perfect for covering cold hands. I already washed it once (and line dried it) with no shrinking or reshaping needed.

When I first saw this bow print skirt, it screamed Valentine’s Day, so naturally I had to have it. It comes from an online boutique run by two sisters with an eye for feminine and flirty details. Bows are iconically lady-like, and I loved that they turned them into a playful print. This bow print skirt also comes in a pencil length (in two additional colors), and as a bonus the print is available on a pretty gray cape. For reference, I’m wearing a size 6.

Accessories

I’ve worn these lace-up over the knee boots an excessive number of times this winter, and the count is still going. (See my original review here.) I just purchased this pea coat during a fantastic sale and with the help of a gift card from my boyfriend’s mom. (Thank you!) 1. I highly suggest everyone invest in a red coat. It can literally change your outlook. 2. Lots of store are currently having an “end of season” sale. Boston got snow yesterday and today and I can’t think of a more appropriate time to snag a new coat for a great price.
