Color Crush April: Lavender & Lilac

April’s color crush capsule is full of the prettiest pastel purple hues: lavender & lilac. In addition to a round-up of all the color crush picks I’m currently coveting, I included my favorite combos. I borrowed the template after seeing this post from Blair of Atlantic Pacific, who’s style, blog, and overall aesthetic is the definition of #goals.

Hey loves!

Today, I’m talking picks for this month’s color crush capsule! If you’re just tuning in, a clothing capsule is a collection of wardrobe pieces – tops, bottoms, shoes, jewelry, etc. – that can be mixed and matched, generally for a season. A capsule is a sustainable option for busy gals on the go, and makes dressing, packing, laundry (you name it!) a breeze. Capsules can also be economically beneficial. Most set a goal to make no new purchases for the season or only allow additions up to a certain amount.

I, however, live in Boston where the weather can often feel and look like the Kingdom of the North from Game of Thrones. Can you say everlasting winter? This makes the traditional time frame for a capsule too restrictive. (I mean, who wants to mix and match the same 31 winter pieces for six months?) I’m also a serial shopper with commitment issues, and no new purchases sounds like fake news. With the help of blogger twin, Josie of Hello Silhouette, I settled on a monthly clothing capsule with a generous budget of $350 a month. We both love color play, bright walls, and believe in the power of color to uplift our mood. (Why else would God give us all these beautiful shades!) We settled on curating around two to three hues a cycle and the color crush capsule was born.

Curating a Balanced Wardrobe

Prior to the color crush capsule, I had a tendency to purchase an aggressive number of statement pieces. Statements are meant to be items you build an entire outfit around – a brightly colored coat, an intricately embroidered handbag, a lace evening dress – but I had a bad habit of wearing them all at the same time. This led to looks that were overwhelming to the eye and worse, nothing-to-wear-itis.

Fortunately, as I age, my affinity for layering statement pieces declines. Setting a limit of no more than three statement pieces per outfit allows both others and myself to appreciate the details. Additionally, as I become more intentional about curating my wardrobe, maintaining a balance with new additions becomes easier. This month, a focus on adding more staples to my closet significantly increased the versatility of my spring wardrobe. (Packing for my trip home was the easiest it’s ever been!) The color crush capsule encourages me to search for staples in hues I wouldn’t have tried previously, and so my wardrobe matures without sacrificing any of my personal style.

April Color Crush Capsule: Purple

Below, I shared not only my top lilac and lavender picks from my wishlist, by my favorite statement & staple pairings. Every Parisienne admirer loves a beret and mock neck combo, but I highly encourage you to try it in lavender. A purple striped top pairs easily with white jeans, but in my opinion it looks even better with a purple blazer to top it off. I may be paring down the number of statement pieces in my closet, but you should know that if you purchase one, it deserves one equally hype wingman to complete the look.

darling details

I hope to encourage others to expand their color horizons, all while maintaining a versatile wardrobe and healthy budget. (Full disclosure: last month the focus was yellow, and I got a wee bit carried away because it’s my favorite color. I spent less this month to make up for it, and I’ll be spending less next month too. I monitor all my purchases in a spreadsheet!) As always, leave a comment if you make any purchases you make and thanks for reading! Happy new week!
