This March the palette is an ode to an early spring. I’m trading black for a less harsh alternative, navy, wearing pastel purples (typically reserved for April), and a dab of trendy greens: olive, citron, + mint.
Hello!
Disclaimer
I want to acknowledge that talking about style and clothing at a time like this seems frivolous to some. Whenever I’m stressed for much less serious reasons, however, I often organize my closet + create color mood boards on Pinterest. Colors have a profound impact on my mood and this is my way to of sharing what takes my mind off of tough topics and makes me smile.
Color Crush Capsule
To recap, the #colorcrushwardrobe began as a personal challenge to weave one color into as many aspects of my life as I could. I “crushed” on plenty of colors before, but Winter 2016-2017 I was in love with cardinal red. (Who doesn’t love red for the holidays and a pop of color against a stark winter landscape?) I took photos in front of red walls + doors. I wore red in as often as possible; sometimes as only a simple accessory such as a hat, scarf, purse, water bottle, nail color, or a sassy lippie.
Eventually, I transitioned to pink in the spring and then orange in the summer and so on and so forth. It was a helpful way to create a more cohesive wardrobe and subsequently, Instagram feed. In 2018, my seasonal color play evolved into a monthly capsule when Josie (@hellosilohuette) reached out and requested to join me. We were so adventurous that first year, but not so much last. When we sat down to catch up at the end of 2019, we decided to recommit this year!
The March Palette
Let’s get into this palette shall we?
Spring is here. Despite Winter’s attempts this past week to prolong her rein we’ve had unprecedentedly beautiful weather this month – To welcome the arrival of the new season, I said goodbye to black and chocolate brown, and hello to navy, a dark alternative with a lighter feel. Given it’s usually too chilly to wear short sleeve frocks and sleeveless sheaths alone, I like to stay warm but bright by donning a coat in pastel tint. As early as February, I found myself gravitating toward lavender. I decided to build a capsule around this hue, of which I had plenty of pieces from previous capsules. I was already wearing sage, so I opted for a more saturated hue, mint, for this capsule.
By themselves, however, pastel purple and green aren’t particularly ground breaking for spring. Y’all know that in a past year, these colors made a gorgeous palette but I wanted to break from routine. Josie suggested we add chartreuse and initially I wasn’t sure. A couple of hours and a deep dive on Pinterest was all I needed to find the necessary inspo.
I wanted one more color – a hue to balance all the brights. For awhile, I’ve wanted a capsule that better utilizes past seasons clothes. When I found myself eyeing several pieces at an online clothing store in “Italian Olive,” I knew I found the one.
