As you may know, I have developed a serious love for Ann Taylor as I’ve gotten older. Their pieces are filled with rich hues, bold patterns, and classic silhouettes for a trendy yet timeless feel. For me this look encompasses all of those aspects; deep navy, bright florals, and off the shoulder. This look could easily be worn with flats for a more practical daytime look, or spiced up with heels or wedges for a date night. You could also pair the shorts with this navy blue blouse or button-down for more work appropriate look too. I could go on and on, as both pieces are so versatile, there’s endless ways to mix and match them.
When I saw this top, I knew I had to grab it, especially since it had been marked down to $19! It’s currently listed at $50 but if you know Ann Taylor, they’re sure to mark it down at least once more before the close of the summer. I also like that, unlike my other off the shoulder tops, this one is fitted which makes it much easier to tuck into bottoms.
If I haven’t made it clear, I love these shorts and the colors are perfect for transitioning into early fall days. If you’re crushing on this floral print as much as I am, you’ll love this dress and skirt, or consider completing the set with this matching peplum top. There’s even a scarf for those looking for a lively, but lightweight way to bundle up on a cool summer evening.
Also I can’t get enough of these sunglasses! I purchased them for $18 at the Ann Taylor Factory Store, but they’re not available online and most likely aren’t in stock at the classic Ann Taylor either. I did some hunting and found a similar pair here and here. (Bonus: The second comes in five colors!) My double sided pearl earrings are one of my favorite jewelry pieces; pair with a simple pearl necklace to create the perfect vintage feel. While you can easily find a pair for under $15, most earrings that inexpensive are made of brass, nickel, or a combination of metals that will turn over time. If you’re looking to invest in more long term jewelry, or you have sensitive skin, you may find these (sterling silver or 18k gold) pairs to be better options.
If you’re like me, your hair’s low porosity often lends to excessive dryness, which can make it brittle and fragile. In the summertime, natural hairstyles force me to put a bit more TLC into my hair, but during busy weeks, it isn’t always easy to find that time. Though heat styling is more time efficient for me, the heat applied can exacerbate my hair’s fragility. I find thick, lose braids put the least amount of strain on my hair, although admittedly I need to up my game. I am pretty proud of this look though, and with some practice, I may be able to don it as maid of honor at my best friend’s wedding in September. To attain the perfect bun, I decided to DIY a sock hair donut. This tutorial is perfect; the bun made the shorter hair at the back of my head look much fuller, the sock posed no risk to my delicate strands, and it cost me nothing.
