Summer Casual: Flutter Top & Distressed Denim

image

Hey all,

If you don’t already know, I decided to take the summer off from teaching to mentally recharge and work on the blog. Outside of a few gigs (and my first ever vacation!), I have spent most of my time cleaning, over-eating, and playing PokemonGo to undo the effects of the former. Of course, this week, as the entire country experienced heat waves of records proportions, going outside was even more undesirable than usual. Naturally, I motivated myself the only way I know how, by putting on a cute outfit. It’s no secret that I’m beyond obsessed with one of summer’s biggest trends, the off-the-shoulder top. I’ve been eyeing this one for a couple of months now, and I was beyond excited when it went on sale. Despite my very tight summer budget, I couldn’t stop myself from adding this top to my cart! It’s still marked down now, and available in all sizes (S/M/L). You may also like this baby pink one (swoon) or this black floral one. The ruffles give this top a fantastic feminine feel and the cutout shoulders are flirty with a touch of sexy. This top sends a message to summer; it’s not the only one that can turn up the heat.

Distressed white denim is a wardrobe staple, and these pants are about as comfortable as it gets, which is great since summer is the perfect opportunity to consume generous proportions of fried and grilled foods. Full disclosure: For this brand, the stretch is fairly generous in the thighs and hips, order a size down. I regret not sending them back immediately to do so myself.

As far as accessories were concerned, I opted to for pieces in neutral colors that I felt made a statement in their own right, but didn’t distract from the gorgeous blue of the blouse. These black platforms were only $20 from Target and I love this straw hat! Unfortunately it’s sold out, but Shop & Apparel carries an entire line of affordable embroidered straw hats that I also love. The handbag is a look-a-like for the Clare V. clutch and I purchased it last winter from an online boutique. It was only $50 and came with a detachable gold chain strap. They’ve since sold out, but this Etsy shop makes a very similar bag available in four sizes.

What are your thoughts on the off-the-shoulder trend? Do you love it as much as I do? Is it too much? Was this top the deal breaker? Let me know in the comments below and as always thanks for reading!
