For some, wearing one hue from head-to-toe can feel like a bold move, but most of my favorite style posts from other influencers + content creators are monochromatic outfits.
I love a single color look. Although, generally my thing is playing with combinations of two to three pigments at a time, often using the color wheel for inspo, a palette can be just as good when it includes multiple shades + tints of the same hue. Last spring, I put together my fave – up until a week ago – monochromatic look: this all lilac ensemble. The good folx over on Instagram showed me so much love that I couldn’t wait to do it again! Since then, I’ve sported (1) a burgundy look reminiscent of 20th Century Fox’s Anastasia, (2) this baby blue one, and (3) a rosey hued number fit for crushing my to-d- list in my home office.
Monochromatic Style in Lemon Yellow
In February, when I came across this yellow beret from one of my fave retailers, I knew I had to create a look in my fave color next.
I also snagged these yellow pants + sweater from the same retailer back, but didn’t wear them until a few weeks ago. Initially, I wore the sweater to work, but the cut is boxy + not suitable for tucking in, so I realized a few hours into the day that it wasn’t my fave pairing. When I came home, I changed into an old ribbed top from Uniqlo. I draped the sweater around my neck + immediately felt my vision come to life. As I was feeling country club vibes, I knew if I channeled that energy, I was going to love the results. I asked the beau to help me execute the photoshoot.
This was also the most proud I have been of my Instagram caption in awhile. These are my fave lines: “The category is rich Black mom. It’s giving my oldest plays tennis + my youngest, the harp. Its giving multiple steams of income; I make money in my sleep. Its giving bae’s Walgreen stock took off. It’s giving I add a lemon wedge to every glass of water. It’s giving steak + salmon are family dinner staples.” Click here to check out what folx in my community thought this look was giving. I giggled quite a bit when I read their comments.
