Update on the Color Crush Capsule
Last March, the #colorcrushcapsule transitioned back to quarterly capsules. (If you were here in 2016, when the concept originated, you may remember this was a thing.) Josie (of Hello Silhouette) + I thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with new colors + sharing ways to expand our wardrobe color palette. We agreed, however, it was out of touch to advocate for new clothes when we were just instructed to stay home whenever possible. Additionally, cutting back was fiscally responsible. With so many conflicting updates about reopening we were unsure what our financial situation would look like come summer.
As autumn approached, we touched base. Josie felt her style moving in a new direction – minimalist, neutral, + versatile. I felt similarly – I wanted more monochromatic, structured pieces + also, more versatility. That meant we both had the urge to purge + re-calibrate, but I still wanted to play with color + sadly, my partner in color crush crime did not. These days, we still share far too many links to clothes with one another, but our IG feeds are no longer in sync. If you noticed this change, that’s why. My fave AZ girl has embraced desert, chic vibes + she’s crushing it.
In the meantime, I am loving the decision to slow my wardrobe expansion down. I’m wearing more one color looks; which feel more aligned with how my style expression has evolved as I’ve aged. I’m mixing + matching more pieces + purchasing items I can wear more often. I still have a flair for the dramatics, so notable shoulder, sleeve, or silhouette details are my go-to for standing out. This year, the Q1 capsule included burgundy, baby blue, muted pinks, + neutrals (black + ivory). I loved it. The colors complimented nicely the season outside + the season of life I was experiencing inside – office decor additions in similar hues.
A Pastel Palette
For Q2, pastels are the focus for the first time in a couple of years. Baby blue continues as a through thread, though sage green + pale lemon yellow have been center stage in my wardrobe rotation since late March. I’ve been saving color inspo to Pinterest like whoa! I haven’t played with this palette since March of 2018. I’ve loved spending more time dressing in these colors + finding new, elevated pieces to update this portion of my wardrobe.
About a month ago, I purchased a new pair of heeled sandals in that lovely sage color. Pastels are on trend for spring + summer, so I also came across a number of super cute sandals in yellow that I struggled not to “Add to Cart.” I posted a photo of the sage pair + a pair of blue sandals from last summer on IG last week, + while searching for dupes for the latter to link to LIKEtoKNOW.It, I fell down yet another rabbit hole of pastel colored cuties. I decided to round them up for y’all, because they were just to sweet not to share!
I’m here for all the thong + thick, braided strapped sandals. The way ya girl’s bunions are set up, thin strapped sandals are mostly a nuisance. My skin + bone are either irritated as all get out or I wear down the strap until it pops – which is almost always before the life of the shoe has expired. That said, I can’t guarantee that y’all won’t see a couple of these pop up on my feed +/or stories in the coming weeks. 😉
