Valentine’s Day 2017: How to Winterize a Date Night Dress

Hey loves!

Sometimes the first few months of the year can feel a bit humdrum, style-wise, for me. Within a few weeks into January, I’ve already lost that holiday feeling *cue Top Gun soundtrack* and most days, northeasters, ice and freezing rain don’t leave much room for more for than chunky layers, knit accessories, and boots. Valentine’s Day always feels a great time to get that feeling back, and this velvet-bowed pretty metallic shift dress – also here – was just what the doctor ordered. (For reference, I ordered one size up and am wearing a 10.) This gold chain velvet clutch was a perfect addition, as well as this rose gold sterling silver heart ring and these druzy drop earrings from the SUGARFIX line for Target from BaubleBar. (If you haven’t seen these new pieces, go check them out.) I loved adding touches of gold to a classic red and black combo; it was just what I needed to get me out of my fashion funk. This past weekend New England started to show its first signs of spring but I could not have been more excited to get pictures in what was quite possibly the last blizzard of the season. Is it just me, or is there something magical about taking pictures in the snow?

Though I may be able to retire my gloves soon, I want to note there are a few pieces in this outfit that will be key into comfortably and stylishly transitioning my wardrobe into warmer weather. I’ll be keeping my peacoat and turtleneck around for a few more weeks, and this pretty pink coat is currently in my cart and will be a closet staple this coming March. I also have my eye on this pair of over the knee boots; I’m a sucker for a soft spring neutral that can still keep my feet warm during what are sure to be a few more chilly days. As always, thanks for reading!
